Woman Facing OUI Charge After Head-on Crash

Jillian Richards is also charged with driving to endanger and failure to have insurance

A Waldoboro, Maine, woman who told police she was returning from a methadone clinic has been charged with operating under the influence after she allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and struck another vehicle head-on.

The Knox County Sheriff's Department says 24-year-old Jillian Richards was driving south on U.S. Route 1 in Warren at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday when her car crossed the centerline and struck a pickup truck driven by a Massachusetts man.

The other driver, 53-year-old John Engwer, of Wrentham, Massachusetts, was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport with minor injuries.

Richards was trapped in her car. After she was extricated, she was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life threatening injuries.

She's also charged with driving to endanger and failure to have insurance.
