Woman, Man Found Dead in Ashby Murder-Suicide Identified

Authorities said the two had been married but divorced in 1990

The man and woman found Friday in an apparent murder-suicide outside a home in Ashby, Massachusetts, have been identified.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Rebecca Griffin, 51, of Fitchburg, and John Griffin, 55, were found on the front lawn of the Watatic Mountain Road home at 1:37 p.m.

Authorities said the two had been married but divorced in 1990.

An autopsy by the Chief Medical Examiner revealed that both died from multiple stab wounds and an investigation revealed that John Griffin fatally stabbed Rebecca before killing himself.

"This is a senseless and tragic crime," said Ryan. "Rebecca Griffin would come to her ex-husband's home to assist him with day-to-day errands such as grocery shopping and bringing him to doctor's appointments and sadly, she lost her life in the interest of helping him."
