Woman Struck, Killed by Bus in Downtown Providence

Police have identified a woman who was struck and killed by a bus while crossing a downtown Providence street.

The Providence Journal reports the woman was identified as 30-year-old Michelle Cagnon.

Authorities say the Cumberland resident was crossing Washington Street in Kennedy Plaza when she was struck by a Peter Pan bus turning left at about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Yellow police tape was used to cordon off the area and the victim's body was covered.

Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare says the crash was caught on several surveillance cameras at Kennedy Plaza. He says investigators are reviewing the footage to reconstruct the crash.

Pare says the bus driver is cooperating with the investigation.

No other information was immediately available.
