Wrong School Receives Hate Mail After Professor Fired

Officials at other colleges that share similar names say they share the same plight, including at Miami University in Ohio.

Officials at Wheaton College in Massachusetts say the school has been taking heat for a campus dispute at Wheaton College in Illinois, an unrelated Christian school.

Confusion between the two schools resulted in a wave of angry emails sent to the Massachusetts school after the Illinois college moved to fire a professor who had shown solidarity with Muslims this month. Officials at the Massachusetts school, which is secular, say they frequently deal with that confusion.

But the hostility in those emails led the school's president to launch a campaign to clear up the confusion. He's asking students and faculty members to spread the college's message of tolerance across social media.
