Yarmouth Clam Festival Celebrates Summer, Bivalves in Maine

The annual Yarmouth Clam Festival is in high gear and ready to open the curtains on its annual shucking contest.

The festival is Maine's marquee celebration of the clam and it has been happening since 1965. This year, it began on Friday and runs until Sunday.

Saturday is the day of the Maine State Clam Shucking Contest, which begins at 11 a.m. Prizes go to the fastest shuckers in the competition.

Saturday's events also include road races, a craft show, music and fireworks. Sunday will feature a bike race and an art expo.
