Boston Mayor Walsh: Menino Told Me ‘I've Beaten This Before'

(NECN: South Boston, Mass.) - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sunday, politicians came together at Boston's annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.

For the first time, Massachusetts Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry of Boston hosted the breakfast, considered one of the city's biggest political events.

Each year, the breakfast gives politicians in the state a chance to tease their colleagues and laugh at themselves.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh poked fun at himself saying, "who says I'm too close to the unions?"

On a serious note, Walsh mentioned he had the opportunity to talk to former Boston Mayor Tom Menino, who recently announced he has been diagnosed with cancer. During their conversation, Walsh said Menino told him, "I've beaten this before."

After the event, South Boston's annual St. Patrick's Day parade is scheduled to take place.
