Couple That Wedded After Last Year's Boston Marathon Ready to Run Again

(NECN: Kathryn Sotnik, Boston) - Fresh into Boston from Dallas, Robert and Kelli Watling proudly show off their marathon numbers.

Their history is a unique one. They got married after crossing the finish line last year.

Kelli wore a dress made out of running material. Robert's tux was similar. The couple had both finished and were preparing for their Boston Common nuptials when the bombs went off.

With the support of their families, they decided to continue on with the wedding anyway.

"At that time we still weren't sure who did this or why," said Kelli. "If it was terrorist act, we certainly weren't going to let them derail our plans."

But the backdrop was far from what they expected.

"That night, it was completely barren," said Kelli.

"It was a mix of emotions," said Robert. "It was tough, given that uncertainty was still unfolding, we had no idea what was going on."

They were also thinking about the victims.

"The news that was coming in about the victims was still in the back of our heads, and on the other side, we were committing to a relationship for the rest of our lives," said Robert.

Despite being back for the first time and feeling the strong emotions, they're proud to see the city as it was.

"It's good to be back, there's still the buzz that there always is," said Kelli.

This time, though, they have a new addition. They're expecting their first child, a little girl, in October.

"My doctor and I have a plan, and I will stick with that as best I can and just see how far I go," said Kelli.

"I think it's a perfect ending for us, for Kelli to eventually finish the race, and hopefully cross the finish line, carrying our child," said Robert.

The little girl will be named Alexandra Copley Watling, after Copley Square.
