Driver Charged in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

(NECN: John Moroney) - It was a terrible scene on Hampton Road in Sharon, Massachusetts Sunday evening, as police investigated an accident that left a young woman dead.

Police say 20-year-old Haley Cremer was out running when she was hit by a white Ford Explorer.

The driver has been identified as 44-year-old Jeffrey Bickoff of Sharon. He's been charged with motor vehicle homicide, speeding and driving with a suspended license.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles says Bickoff's license had been suspended for several reasons, including two other car crashes that occurred in Sharon.

Investigators were testing the brakes on the Explorer Sunday night. Details about how the accident happened are still unclear. People who live near the accident scene said vehicles often speed through the neighborhood.

The victim had just finished up her sophomore year at Simmons College in Boston, where the school said she was studying physical therapy and put 100 percent of herself into everything she did.

Neighbors say Cremer lived near the scene with her parents and a younger sister.
