Mass. Speaker DeLeo Shows Off His Southie Selfies

(NECN: South Boston, Mass.) – Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sunday, politicians came together at Boston’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast.

For the first time, Massachusetts Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry of Boston hosted the breakfast, considered one of the city's biggest political events.

Each year, the breakfast gives politicians in the state a chance to tease their colleagues and laugh at themselves. Some even sing a song or two.

Speaker Robert DeLeo began by sending his best to former Boston Mayor Tom Menino, who is battling cancer.

“But every year, I have to tell all of you, with the snow on the ground, I start to get excited about St. Patrick’s Day. I start thinking about the breakfast and the camaraderie that we all share. And then, sort of like getting ready for one of those Braude interviews, I start to worry,” the speaker said.

Speaker DeLeo continued by saying he spent time in South Boston to connect to the city in preparation of the breakfast. He documented his travels by taking, what he called, Southie Selfies.

After the event, South Boston's annual St. Patrick’s Day parade is scheduled to take place.
