(NECN) - Sample questions are out for the new and improved SAT. This year's college prep exam includes changes to the vocabulary section.
For more on this, NECN was joined by Karen Arnold, a professor at Boston College and an expert on college preparedness.
Arnold said that that the test is completely changing the mathematics and reading and writing section. In addition, the essay section will be optional. It is speculated that these changes are coming because in 2012, more students took the ACT rather than the SAT for the first time.
“It’s quite the coincidence that the SAT revamp is looking quite a lot like the ACT and also it’s occurring at a point not only where the ACT has overcome them, but more and more colleges are going test optional,” Arnold explained.
Lastly, Arnold said that there is a possibility the test will be a more accurate assessment of what students are actually being taught in high school.
