Search for Missing Hiker Resumes in Maine

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (AP) - Maine game wardens and the Maine Association of Search and Rescue are making another push to find a hiker who went missing on the Appalachian Trail.

Cpl. John MacDonald said wardens will stop to reassess if Sunday's intensified effort fails to find any sign of 66-year-old Geraldine Largay of Brentwood, Tenn.

The original search area covered more than 80 square miles. But searchers later narrowed the focus.

Largay's husband, George, had been providing supplies and support for his wife's hike from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., to Maine's Baxter State Park. He said she contacted him on July 21 from atop Saddleback Mountain and texted him again the following morning before disappearing.
