Worcester, Mass. House Party Turns Into Crime Scene

UPDATE: The Worcester, Mass. man stabbed several times in the neck has died from his injuries. Police say 20-year-old Boris Velez was found stabbed after a large fight broke out at 35 Sherbrook Avenue early Saturday morning. Velez was in critical condition, Sunday morning, but his mother later confirmed that he had died. The man who police say held the party is Mark Aldana. He was arrested for disturbing the peace. The incident remains under investigation.

(NECN: Kristen Carosa) - A large house party turned into a crime scene over the weekend in Worcester, Mass. A young man was stabbed in the neck. He remains in the hospital in critical condition. At this hour, police need your help identifying who put him there.

Drops of blood now stain the pavement outside this Sherbrook Avenue home. Police say a 20-year-old was stabbed after what they are calling a house party escalated into a fight.

“His injuries were severe, he had lost a lot of blood and he had to immediately go into surgery and at this point he is on life support,” says Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst.

Sgt. Hazelhurst says police responded to the large fight and stabbing incident at approximately 1:18 a.m. Saturday. He says drugs and alcohol were at the party, which quickly got out of control.

According to reports, the victim was stabbed twice in the neck. A neighbor made the call to police.

“Shortly after our arrival, we found out that victim had been taken to a nearby hospital and was immediately taken to the emergency room.”

Hazelhurst says police went to UMass Memorial Medical Center where the victim had been taken. He says police interviewed some of the people that were at the party, but no arrests have been made in the stabbing. He says many of those at the party were underage.

“When you have a large group of people late night, it's a volatile situation, something usually bad happens as a result.”

Hazelhurst says police have been placed in the neighborhood until further notice. Police have responded to the home before but only for minor incidents.

He says after Saturday's stabbing, they will be keeping a close eye on the area.

“We will be walking the neighborhood, talking with neighbors; we are going to try to determine if there is a trend of these types of parties, we will be out there for a while.”
