Biden 2016? Super PAC Trying to Persuade Vice President

A new TV ad from "Draft Biden," the group trying to persuade Vice President Joe Biden that he should enter the presidential race has political observers buzzing.

Set to air nationally on Tuesday just before the first Democratic presidential debate, the nearly two minute ad tells the story of how Biden's life was shaped by the 1972 car accident that killed his first wife and daughter and nearly killed his two sons.

The ad has set off a new round of speculation over whether or not Biden will get in to the race.

The latest polls can be interpreted a number of ways: Clinton beats Biden, but Biden's favorability is higher and polls show, unlike Clinton, he would beat leading Republicans in a head-to-head match up

Boston University Professor Tom Whalen says Biden is testing the water and that his decision will likely depend on what happens to Hillary Clinton - and that may not be know until after the first three contests, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina

"Whether she'll implode. If she does, I think Biden will jump in with both feet, because really, outside of Hilary, there's no one to oppose Bernie Sanders, no establishment Democratic candidate," Whalen said.

The Republicans may have there own 11th hour wild card candidate.

In an interview Tuesday promoting her new book, Mitt Romney's wife Ann didn't rule out the possibility that her husband could still get into the race.

Whalen says that option is not unthinkable.

"He wouldn't have to work as hard as he did before because now there would be a groundswell of support among certain rank and file party men - we want Mitt! And he can wait, really, until the convention to pull this off. So I think it's a win-win for him," he said.
