In a crush of reporters and supporters, Scott Brown said, life goes on, after he lost his New Hampshire Senate bid to Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen.

Brown said, “I lost fair and square, so I called her and congratulated her fair and square.”

He was labeled a carpetbagger by Democrats, up from Massachusetts to wiggle back into the Senate through New Hampshire. Though the race was called by most just before 9, it would take Brown three hours to concede.

He said, “Listen, it probably came down to five or six thousand votes out of 400-and-something thousand, that’s a pretty good run.”

Many called the race a bellwether for the political mood of the country, but in the end he wouldn’t be needed to wrest control of the Senate.

“So my friends it looks like it is a good night for America. It looks like the Senate has changed over into Republican hands.”

After his speech Brown was asked if this was it or if voters would see him again.

He wouldn’t go into specifics, but pressed, he finally said, “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

But then he added, “Except, of course, to go and have a beer.”
