Democrat Connolly Announcing Run for N.H. Governor

Businessman Mark Connolly is jumping into the gubernatorial race, kicking off a contested Democratic primary in New Hampshire.

Connolly will announce his candidacy Thursday morning in Manchester - entering a Democratic field that already includes Executive Councilor Colin Van Ostern.

Connolly is a former head of the state's Bureau of Securities Regulation, former deputy secretary of state and previously served as a state representative. He now runs an investment advising company in New Castle. He resigned his job leading the Bureau of Securities Regulation over what he called the state's failure to investigate an alleged Ponzi scheme by Financial Resources Mortgage.

Hassan's decision to run for U.S. Senate has created a competitive environment in the gubernatorial race. Republican executive councilor Chris Sununu is also running, and several others are likely to jump in on both sides.
