Donald Trump Cancels Visit to Rhode Island

A Trump spokesman says they never confirmed the event

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will not be coming to Rhode Island on Friday.

State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell says Trump canceled the trip but does not know why. He says police were alerted by the Secret Service.

Republican state Rep. Joseph Trillo, honorary campaign chairman in Rhode Island, tells The Providence Journal that Trump was looking to hold an event at the Dunkin' Donuts Center or Rhode Island Convention Center and the main factor for the cancellation was security concerns.

Larry Lepore, the general manager of both facilities, says no one from the Trump campaign ever spoke with them. He says security would not be an issue because they have plenty of experience with protests at large events.

A Trump spokesman says they never confirmed the event.
