GOP Mass. Gov. Candidate Baker on Beacon Hill Reform

Charlie Baker discusses probation trial verdict, immigration, gun control, Market Basket and more

Tuesday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh told margery Eagan and NECN's Jim Braude that he didn't agree with the guilty verdict in the trial against former Massachusetts Probation Commissioner John O'Brien.

Asked if O'Brien was guilty of a crime, Walsh responded, "That's a good question. I don't think so."

Charlie Baker, a Republican candidate to replace Deval Patrick as the governor of Massachusetts, joined Braude on Broadside to share his thoughts on the probation trial and other issues.

"I do think he committed a crime. And I think a jury of his peers concluded the same thing," said Baker. "For me, the big issue here is what I would refer to as the 'rig game' on Beacon Hill there. There were clearly a lot of people who got jobs they weren't qualified for, and there was a pretty carefully laid-out process to cover that up."

Baker explained that his camp has proposed some new policies improving transparency in the Bay State.

The gubernatorial candidate also shared his thoughts on sheltering children in the immigration crisis, gun control, Market Basket and his hopes for the Red Sox as the MLB non-waiver trade deadline approaches.
