Hillary Rodham Clinton says Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rep. Mike Michaud is the best candidate to spur economic change in Maine.
Clinton spoke Friday at a rally at Scarborough High School that attracted about 1,000 people. The former secretary of state and first lady of the United States says Michaud's background as a mill worker underscores his understanding of the need for middle-class jobs.
Michaud is running against Republican Gov. Paul LePage and independent Eliot Cutler. Polls show LePage and Michaud in a tight race and Cutler trailing.
Michaud also spoke at the event and highlighted job growth, access to health care and equal pay for equal work. He says Maine is "at a crossroads" and defeating LePage would be a good start toward improving the state's economy.
