Before Monday night's game between the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns, 11 Redskins players held up their hands, their version of the "hands up, don't shoot" gesture.
In Ferguson, Missouri, protesters faced armored vehicles, tear gas and smoke grenades, repeating the call of "hands up, don't shoot," and demanding an arrest in the shooting death of Michael Brown.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will arrive in Ferguson Wednesday to supervise the federal investigation of the fatal shooting of the unarmed black teen by a white police officer.
Rahsaan Hall, the deputy director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice, joined Joe Battenfeld on Broadside to discuss the racial tension.
"I think one of the things that police in Ferguson can do is attempt to show a little bit of compassion, attempt to go to a model of community policing," said Hall. "The militarization of local police has become a significant problem in a lot of municipalities throughout the country."
