Light Turnout Expected in Vermont Elections

Most statewide races and the majority of legislative seats in Vermont appear all but certain to go to Democrats

Most statewide races and the majority of legislative seats in Vermont appear all but certain to go to Democrats.

Democrats have enjoyed big leads in pre-election polling, big fundraising advantages or both - along with the power of incumbency - in contests for the U.S. House, governor, attorney general and others.

Republicans say they hope to pick up a few seats in the state Legislature, but Democrats are expected to maintain big majorities in both the House and Senate.

Turnout is expected to be light Tuesday despite temperatures in the low 50s and no rain in the forecast.

Instead, it's the absence of a presidential or U.S. Senate race that may keep a majority of registered voters from going to the polls.
