Mass. Treasurer Candidate Deb Goldberg

Goldberg one of three democrats who are locked up in a close primary

Deb Goldberg, a democrat running to become Massachusetts' next State Treasurer, was the first candidate to come out with television advertisements ahead of November's election. She's one of three democrats who is locked up in a close primary.

State Senator Barry Finegold and State Representative Tom Conroy, both of whom comprise her competition, were interviewed on Broadside earlier in the week.

Goldberg is the former chair of the Brookline, Massachusetts, Board of Selectman. She was also a candidate of Lieutenant Governor in 2006. With that said, Goldberg certainly brings a great deal of experience to the table.

The spotlight shifted upon Goldberg as she joined Wendy Murphy to discuss her bid for treasurer.

Murphy conducted a Q&A session to help get a better understanding of Goldberg's views.

"I'm absolutely supportive of the employees. If there's a victim, it's the 25,000 employees of Market Basket," said Goldberg when asked about her opinion on the super market's ongoing feud.

Goldberg's always been supportive of labor unions. She's now in a position to solve such problems if elected. Murphy asked what the one thing she would do to resolve the saga.

"The issue is even bigger than the employees," said Goldberg. "There should of been some sort of intervention from the very beginning."

Because of the financial impact the situation has had on the communities, particularly in New Hampshire, a solution should have been constructed by now, Goldberg stressed.

Murphy and Goldberg went on to discuss the role of the lottery in Massachusetts and the impending casino decision.
