Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is telling supporters she's willing to sue Republican President-elect Donald Trump if that's what's needed to protect the state.
In a fundraising email Tuesday, the Democrat said that when the federal government overreaches or attempts to take illegal action, state attorneys general provide a first line of defense.
"I won't hesitate to take Donald Trump to court if he carries out his unconstitutional campaign promises," she said.
Healey, who supported Democrat Hillary Clinton, ticked off a number of concerns, saying she'll fight to defend Massachusetts' efforts to expand health care, enforce some of the country's toughest gun laws and maintain oversight of banks and Wall Street.
"Here in Massachusetts, we've taken on these fights before," she said. "When I was head of the Civil Rights Division, we sued the federal government to challenge the Defense of Marriage Act, and we won. When George W. Bush was president, our office went to the U.S Supreme Court to force the EPA to regulate carbon emissions, and we won."
Healey faces re-election in 2018 and has about $526,000 in her campaign account.
