New Hampshire Governor Reacts to Trump's Immigration Order

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire says he supports strengthening the vetting process for immigrants.

But he's otherwise declining to offer a clear stance on President Donald Trump's executive order to temporarily halt travel to the United States by citizens of seven majority Muslim nations and suspend the nation's refugee program.

Sununu says in a statement Monday he's "closely monitoring" the executive order. He says immigration enforcement is the job of the federal government. He doesn't say whether he supports the travel ban or halting of refugees.

New Hampshire's attorney general, meanwhile, is calling the order unconstitutional and a violation of the principles of democracy and religious freedom. Attorney General Joe Foster was appointed by Sununu's Democratic predecessor, now U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan.
