New Hampshire Gov. Hassan Still Supports Casino Despite Absence in Her Budget

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan says she still thinks the state should authorize a casino for additional revenue, even though she didn't include a casino proposal in her budget.

Hassan told members of the House and Senate finance committees Tuesday that she chose not to include casino revenue because the Legislature has shown "skepticism" toward casinos. The House has never voted in favor of a casino, but the Senate passed a bill to legalize two last year and is taking up the bill again.

Lawmakers also pressed Hassan's budget director for more details on a proposal to hire a chief operating officer. Hassan's budget includes about $1.4 million over two years to hire the chief operating officer and two staffers, with about $1 million going toward innovation projects.
