Voters are choosing a Democratic nominee for governor after an expensive race pitting Rhode Island's treasurer against Providence's mayor and a first-time candidate with a well-known political name.

Treasurer Gina Raimondo has hewed to her message that she'll be the "jobs governor" and work with urgency to improve the state's sagging economy.

Mayor Angel Taveras has highlighted his tenure running the capital, including steering it away from municipal bankruptcy.

Pell, grandson of the late U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell and husband of Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, has run as an outsider. He says it's time for a fresh perspective in state government.

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung and small businessman Ken Block are running for the Republican nomination.
