Broadside: Protesting at the RNC

(NECN) - It's a sideshow of the Republican convention that's not getting much coverage. Hundreds of protesters marched to protest the GOP convention in Tampa, Fla., but the protest story has not been what people expected in the build up to the convention.

Sarah Sobieraj, assistant professor of sociology at Tufts University, is the author of "Sound-bitten: The Perils of Media Center Political Activism" and joins Broadside to discuss this topic.

Sobieraj says the lack of protest or coverage could be traced to Isaac and an ambivalence from the Occupy movement with electoral politics.

"The Tea Party for a long time has used electoral strategy toward their advantage. This has been a core part of the work they've done," says Sobieraj. "Occupiers, on the other hand, a lot of them were supporters of Obama in '08, have not been thrilled about the way the last four years have gone and aren't quite sure what to make of this election."
