Broadside: The Commencement Speech Parents Need to Hear

Lauren Stiller Rikleen has taken aim at parents when it comes to commencement speeches and tells them what they need to hear about the gap between the baby boomers and millennials.

"We need to understand that this is a generation coming into the workplace more stereotyped negatively than any other generation before it, and it's really important for parents to understand that they've raised their millennial they're sending out into other people's workplaces, and so they need to do a better job of how they accept other people's millennials in their own workplaces," Rikleen said.

Rikleen said it's important for boomers to prepare millennial for leadership now instead of later.

"Although boomers are certainly working longer than expected, 10,000 boomers are still retiring every single day, which means that millennials are going to be stepping into leadership roles very soon," she said.
