DC Dialogue: Privacy Vs. Safety

(NECN) – Mass. Rep. Michael Capuano joined NECN to talk about the Boston Marathon bombings, which occurred in his district.

Congressman Capuano thought that the tribute on the Marathon Bombing anniversary was the right mix of joy and somber energies.

“I think the main thing we’ve learned is that terror can strike anywhere. It’s not just isolated to the humungous incident of knocking down buildings or nuclear weapons,” Congressman Capuano said.

The Washington response is also discussed, from terrorism risk insurance to questions about how to balance privacy and safety.

“I think a lot of people have come to the conclusion that we don’t want to give up our personal freedoms more than is absolutely necessary and that balance is important. I’ve heard that from a lot of people and I think that’s an important lesson to learn,” Congressman Capuano continued.

In addition, Congressman Capuano shares his thoughts about a recent meeting with Cardinal O’Malley and impressions of the new Pope.
