A woman, allegedly high on bath salts, is accused of stabbing a dog after claiming it was possessed by demons, necn affiliate WCSH reports.

Deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in Perham early Sunday morning where they found 30-year-old Ashley Doody acting aggressively and exhibiting unpredictable behavior, Sheriff Darrell Crandall said.

Officials said during a confrontation, Doody attacked and stabbed the family's mixed-breed dog, Trixie, using a kitchen knife. The dog was seriously injured and lost a lot of blood, Crandall said. Trixie was brought to a local veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery.

Doody was arrested and brought to the Aroostook County Jail. She is expected to make an initial appearance in Caribou Superior Court on May 19.

State animal welfare were notified of the incident to ensure that Doody does not have future access to the animal, Crandall said.
