WATERBURY, Conn. (AP)- The state Department of Transportation says Interstate 84 has been shut down in both directions in the Waterbury/Middlebury area. The shutdown could cause major traffic problems. The highway had initially been shut down westbound after the tractor trailer rig overturned near exit 17, but continuing problems have prompted the closing of the highway eastbound from exit 15. The DOT says the accident, first reported about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, would take several hours to clear.
