Overview Of Internship OpportunitiesNECN is a great place to learn how broadcasting, journalism and production come together in one atmosphere. Types of Internships Newsroom Interns Newsroom interns will assist producers with the preparation and execution of daily newscasts. Students will take part in research, writing, preparing scripts, and assisting the director and producer in the control room during Live newscasts. This position offers a comprehensive experience in understanding how television newscasts are developed. Special Projects Intern Assist producers with all aspects of managing the contributor segments for The Morning Show which airs Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 9:00am. Duties will include logging, research, writing, and surfing for story ideas. Interns will have the opportunity to shadow the field crew on assignments and learn how to put together a segment from start to finish. The ideal candidate must have an interest in field/segment producing. The Morning Show Anchor Assistant Intern Work with The Morning Show Anchors on all aspects of the show. Duties will include logging, research, writing, and surfing for story ideas. Interns will have the opportunity to shadow the anchors and learn how to put together a Live morning news show from start to finish. NOTE: This Internship is only available to students who have had a minimum of one professional news oriented internship prior to the time of application. Knowledge of field/segment producing is important. Assignment Desk Get hands on training in newsroom management by assisting Assignment Desk staff. As a desk intern you will facilitate communication between crews in the field, the newsroom staff and management at all levels, while playing a key role in the newsgathering process. This can and will include making and receiving phone calls, responding to emails and press releases, monitoring the Emergency Alert Pager system, tracking network stations for breaking news, and booking satellite windows for in the field live shots. This is a very fast paced internship typically suited for those with some previous news experience. Show Specific In addition to providing great experiences within our News Department, we are able to have well-qualified students work one-on-one with producers for specific shows. Duties for these positions include writing, researching story ideas, creative thinking, and problem solving, booking guests, operating teleprompter and assisting the producer in the control room. Internships are available with the following programs: · Broadside with Jim Braude · TV Diner Graphics Interns Graphic Design interns assist the Graphics Department in producing visual support for multiple daily live news programs. Candidates must have extremely strong skills in Photoshop and Illustrator. Ideal candidates must be open to learning new software and be able to function on MAC and PC operating systems as well. Candidates must also be capable of multi-tasking and solving design problems in a quick and precise manner. Hours for this position are 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and require a minimum two-day commitment. NECN internships are not compensated. |
