Steve AvesonSteve Aveson joined NECN in June 2010 and was named co-host of The Morning Show, in January 2011. Aveson is a TV news veteran with deep experience in New England and nationally. Locally, Aveson has worked as an anchor, reporter and host at WBZ, WFXT, and WCVB in Boston; and at WPRI-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Nationally, Aveson worked as an anchor, correspondent and host at ABC News, ABC’s 20/20 and ABC’s Good Morning America; the Discovery Channel and the Christian Science Monitor. From Moscow and Madrid to Dublin and Nagano, he has tracked world events and breaking news, and his work has earned him respect as a storyteller along with 6 Emmy awards and the privilege of filing reports from all 50 of the United States. As a college student, Aveson toured the country with The Royal Lichtenstein Circus and then came to Boston as a Founding Member of the Boston Shakespeare Company. Bridget BlytheBridget grew up on a horse farm in Saratoga County in Upstate New York, but living and working in New England has been on Bridget's wish list since she was a young girl visiting Cape Cod with her family. Bridget's career began in Albany, NY as a multimedia journalist at Capital News 9/YNN. While there, she gained experience both on air and behind the scenes. As an anchor, reporter and producer at WKBW in Buffalo, NY, Bridget was part of the coverage for major events including the February 2009 crash of Continental Airlines flight 3407, which killed 50 people in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence Center. As a volunteer with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 2009, Bridget has raised nearly fifteen thousand dollars through independent fundraisers, while also completing two marathon events with the LLS Team in Training. She will be completing a third with the organization, when she runs the Boston Marathon in April 2012. Jim BraudeJim Braude hosts Broadside: The News with Jim Braude, NECN's newest news and analysis show, weeknights on NECN. Braude has an earlier history with NECN as host of the station's Emmy Award-winning Talk of New England in the 1990's. By day, he is a radio talk-show host at 96.9FM with Margery Eagan of the Boston Herald. He started his career as a legal services lawyer in the South Bronx, and was the first president of the National Union of Legal Services. He was the executive director of TEAM (Tax Equity Alliance for Massachusetts), a tax reform group, from 1987 to 1996, and then served as a Cambridge City Councilor from 1999 to 2000. Jackie BrunoBefore her return to NECN, Jackie spent three years at WWLP-22News in Springfield, Mass. where she was the weekend evening anchor and Hampshire County Bureau reporter. Among the many high-profile stories Jackie covered during her time there, she was the chief reporter on the Phoebe Prince bullying case, covered the tornado in June 2011, anchored during Hurricane Irene and reported on the Northampton Arsons of December 2009. She has a knack for in-depth and tactful reporting, breaking stories, securing exclusive interviews and leading key investigations. Jackie was no stranger to the television before her broadcast journalism career blossomed. She was named Miss Massachusetts USA in 2008 and placed in the top ten at the nationally televised Miss USA Pageant that year. She also was a coach on MTV’s MADE and was host on NewEngland.com’s “New England TV” where she explored and reported on the sites of New England . Chet CurtisChet Curtis hosts the NECN FYI block of news and business programming, Sunday nights on NECN. Before joining NECN in the spring of 2001, Curtis was as an anchor and reporter with WCVB-TV since its launch in 1972. For the majority of his time with WCVB, Curtis co-anchored the station's principal weekday newscasts, and was the original host of the station's award winning Chronicle program. Before coming to New England, Chet Curtis worked as an anchor and reporter at the CBS flagship station in New York City, and prior to that at the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C., also as an anchor and reporter. Latoyia EdwardsShe joined the NECN family as a morning reporter in 2005, arriving from WWLP-22 in Springfield, MA, where she had been a weekday anchor. A native of Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, Edwards graduated magna cum laude from Emerson College with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She began her career as a news writer for WBZ-1030AM radio, and later reported for the Fox affiliate WICZ-TV 40 in Binghamton, NY. She first anchored television for MediaOne cable news network, while also reporting as the morning drive news anchor for WILD 1090AM. Additionally, Edwards has instructed courses for the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. In 2002, Edwards was crowned Miss Massachusetts in the USA pageant. Leslie GaydosLeslie Gaydos is the anchor of the morning hours of NECN Weekend, and a feature reporter weekdays on NECN Morning. In October
2009, Gaydos and a team from NECN won a national Edward R. Murrow Award
for "The Forgotten Fire," a half-hour documentary that she wrote and
co-produced in 2008. The documentary shed light on the extensive code
violations in a Massachusetts office building where five people were
killed trying to escape a fire in 2000. The story also won a regional
Associated Press Award for best documentary. In addition, "The Forgotten Fire" was credited with helping to pass stalled legislation in Massachusetts that closed a loophole in state sprinkler laws and regulations. Gaydos also contributed to a collection of in-depth reports that won NECN the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Broadcast Journalism Award. She is a Gabriel Award winner, an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award winner, an Associated Press Award winner and was also honored by the American Women in Radio and Television with a Gracie Award. Kristy LeeKristy Lee is currently the co-anchor for First Thing in the Morning and NECN Morning weekdays on NECN. Her career began in 1994 in Palm Springs, California where she worked as the weekend anchor/reporter at the ABC affiliate. A year later, she moved to Spokane, Washington also as weekend anchor/reporter, this time at the CBS affiliate. In 1997, she arrived in Boston to work at WHDH, eventually as weekday morning and noon anchor. She went by her maiden name, Kristy Kim. Four and a half years later, she took on the main anchor job at the CBS affiliate in Seattle, Washington. She returned to Boston in 2005. "Out of all my moves, and I've had many as you can see, this was the best. It's great to be home again with family and friends and working at a wonderful station like NECN." Kristy immigrated to America at age 7. She was born in Taegue, South Korea. Her parents named her Yun Kyong Kim, but when she became a US citizen, she got to name herself. "Why Kristy? Who knows, I was 12, but it eventually ended up working well for TV." Kristy has an undergraduate and graduate degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Mike NikitasHe now co-anchors the weeknight news at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., as well as "NECN Business" weeknights at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., plus "This Week in Business" on Sundays. In 2012, Mike appeared as a newscaster in the hit movie "Ted." He's been nominated four times for an Emmy as outstanding news anchor in Boston and New England. Mike's a New Hampshire native, UNH graduate, and is married with four children. R.D. SahlR.D. Sahl is a special correspondent for NECN. His 35-year career in broadcast journalism has taken him to stories around the corner and around the world. Foreign assignments include: The former Soviet Union and the new Russia, Solidarity-era Poland, German unification, France, The Vatican, Japan, and Cuba. He's covered national political conventions going back seven elections. Sahl first joined NECN in 1995 as host of NewsNight. He joined the network fulltime in 1997, anchoring thousands of newscasts on NECN until stepping down in December 2010 to join the faculty at Boston University. He's received several regional Emmy awards for reporting and anchoring. He is a member of the Silver Circle of NATAS, a recipient of the Yankee Quill Award, and the Boston University Kauff Award. Erick WeberThe Framingham, Massachusetts native joins NECN from WKMG, the CBS affiliate in Orlando, where he served as the morning and noon news anchor, covering national stories including the space shuttle program and the Casey Anthony trial. Erick has also been in the sports chair, having covered the Green Bay Packers for four seasons while at WTMJ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Among the notable sports figures Erick has interviewed: future NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre and legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight. The Emmy Award-winning journalist's news career began in Tri-Cities, Washington as the weekend sports anchor at KNDU. Prior to getting into news, Erick spent time in Los Angeles, California - involved in the entertainment business. His first job out of college was as a page for The Tonight Show at NBC in Burbank. Erick also worked for Brillstein Grey Entertainment on the sets of The Jeff Foxworthy Show and Just Shoot Me and was also an elementary school teacher at a private school in Burbank, California. Josh BrogadirHe taught sixth grade social studies in the Two Way bilingual program at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, MA. He also taught in the Framingham Adult English as a Second Language (FAESL) program and coached 7th and 8th grade football. Josh wanted to try his hand as a news broadcaster and from there, it was time for a career change and a move with his wife, Becca, to San Diego. Josh became an associate producer at KNSD (NBC) before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado to become a reporter at KREX (CBS). It was from the western slope of the Rockies to the next stop in America's heartland, where Josh began reporting and storm chasing at WHOI (ABC) in Peoria, Illinois. He then returned to the northeast as a reporter at WNEP (ABC) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. There he won an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. After several years away, Josh is thrilled to be back home sharing the stories of the people of New England. Brian BurnellConnecticut Bureau Chief Brian Burnell is Connecticut born and raised. His mom is from East Hartford, his dad from Torrington, and Brian grew up in New Fairfield, graduating from Immaculate High School in Danbury. He went on to Syracuse University where he lettered in football and received a bachelor's degree in 1979. His first job in television news came in Syracuse as well where he was a reporter/photographer (a 'one man band' in news speak) at WTVH for a couple of years. From there he moved on to WRGB in Albany where he spent 8 years working his way up from reporter to anchor before moving on to Connecticut. Lauren CollinsAs the New Hampshire bureau reporter, she gets a healthy dose of politics every week, but also gets to explore some of the characters that define this "Live Free or Die" state. Before taking on her full time role at NECN, Lauren spent nine years in radio as a DJ, news reporter, anchor, and editor. While News Director at WATD-FM, she received a national Edward R. Murrow for spot news award and the regional Associated Press award for best newscast. She was honored to work in Boston radio at WRKO-AM and, most recently, at WBZ-AM. Alison KingAlison King made her political reporting debut at NECN covering the 1996 U.S. Senate race between Massachusetts Governor William Weld and Senator John Kerry. Since then, she's covered three Presidential races and a wide range of New England political stories including a documentary on Massachuetts Senator Ted Kennedy. Prior to joining NECN, King was a reporter at WFSB-TV in Hartford, CT. She has also worked as an anchor/reporter at News 12 in Norwalk, CT and WECT-TV in Wilmington, NC. King also worked on programming for ABC Sports during the 1988 Winter Olympic Games and at ABC's Good Morning America. King has earned a number of awards for her work including three Emmy Awards, two Gracie Awards, several Associated Press Awards, and she was a contributing member to NECN's 2000 Dupont award. Alison was the reporter and producer of the May, 2007 documentary, "The Education of Deval Patrick, The First 100 Days,'' which exclusively chronicled the first tumultuous months of the administration of the Massachusetts governor. Marnie MacLeanShe started her career in Bangor at WABI-TV and then spent four years working as a reporter and anchor at WGME-TV in Portland, Maine. During those years she fell in love with the state and won several awards from the Maine Associated Press and the Maine Association of Broadcasters for her reporting work. After her time in Portland, Marnie spent a year working for KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she learned how to chase tornadoes! Scott MontminyHe subsequently worked as news director at WINQ-FM in central Massachusetts before taking a position as chief anchor and news director at Talk America Radio Networks. Scott also hosted and co-hosted various syndicated radio programs at Talk America. After a foray into the public relations field, Scott worked as a television health reporter at WNDS-TV in Derry, New Hampshire. As a health reporter, Scott earned an American Heart Association Media Award and a citation from New Hampshire's former Governor Craig Benson. Scott has spent much of his time since 1998 as a traffic reporter for Metro Networks in Boston, where he currently serves as assistant director of operations. His work at Metro has included reporting on traffic conditions for numerous Boston radio and television stations. He occasionally reports for WBZ radio's "Traffic on the Threes" (where his traffic reporting career began) from both the ground and the air. He currently can be seen each weekday morning, reporting on traffic conditions for all of New England on NECN. Scott is also co-owner of Across the Board Productions, a full-service production company specializing in syndicated talk radio. John MoroneyJohn Moroney joined NECN in April 2004 as a general assignment reporter from WFSB TV-3, the CBS affiliate in Connecticut, where he was a general assignment reporter and the Chief Political Reporter for the station. Moroney is a seasoned and award-winning journalist, having more than two decades of broadcast and print experience. He has reported on a wide range of issues, including: national presidential campaigns to state and local politics; the aftermath of September 11th; the RI Station nightclub fire; the Catholic Church crisis; same sex marriage in Massachusetts; the Big Dig; and the Entwhistle murders. Moroney received his BA from Northeastern University and Master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where he was awarded the John M. Patterson Prize for Nightly News. Prior to joining NECN, Moroney worked as a reporter for WFSB TV-3 and NBC affiliate WWLP-TV 22 in Springfield; as well as an anchor and managing editor for the MediaOne cable news network. Alysha PalumboAlysha Palumbo is a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at NECN. She joined the station in March 2009. A native New Englander, Alysha grew up in Sutton, Massachusetts and is a proud alumna of Sutton High School. She graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Alysha began her career as a reporter at WPBN (NBC) in Traverse City, Michigan, eventually anchoring the 5 p.m. newscast there. She went on to report and fill-in anchor at WIVB-WNLO (CBS & CW) in Buffalo, New York. There, Alysha won a New York State Broadcasters Association Award and was nominated for a New York Emmy Award. Amy SinclairAmy Sinclair considers herself lucky to live and work in the great state of Maine. Her reporting has taken her to remote islands off the coast and deep into the Maine woods in search of bear dens and lynx kittens. She says there are as many stories to tell in Maine as there are miles ofcoastline, so there's never a dull moment. Before joining NECN, Amy worked for WGME-TV in Portland, ME and WVII in Bangor, ME. She's been honored with an Emmy and numerous awards from the Associated Press and the Maine Association of Broadcasters. Jack ThurstonA native of Westford, Massachusetts, Jack covered Vermont for nine years at the state's CBS affiliate, WCAX. His work there received several journalism honors, including a regional Edward R. Murrow award in 2011 for his continuing coverage of a kidnapping and murder in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Jack won other regional Murrows in 2007 for best feature story and in 2006 for best news series. In 2008, the United States Small Business Administration named Jack its Vermont journalist of the year, for his popular and long-running series of reports called "Made in Vermont" that highlighted the state's business community and entrepreneurial spirit. Nelly Carreno![]() Nelly Carreño Nelly Carreño joined NECN in October of 2010 as the 9am and noon meteorologist. She is a three-time Emmy winner who has covered hard news, entertainment, and weather in the last 10 years. Nelly started her career in 2001 at KTXS NEWS in Abilene, Texas. In 2002 Carreño accepted a job in Amarillo where she anchored the morning and noon shows. With a lifetime of fascination and interested of weather driving her, Nelly became the weekend weather anchor and entertainment reporter for Telemundo/NBC in Dallas, Texas in 2005. Thereafter, Nelly accepted an opportunity with Accuweather in State College, Pennsylvania where she learned from some the most accomplished forecasters and meteorologists in the business. In 2007, Nelly was named Chief Meteorologist for WSNS/Telemundo in Chicago, also appearing on their sister station WMAQ/NBC some weekends. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis on Broadcast Journalism. She also has a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University's three-year program. Nelly was born in Mexico City, raised in Texas, and has lived in 5 different states. She is fluent in Spanish, loves to dance and is an avid poker player. |
Tim KelleyTim Kelley has been a meteorologist with NECN since the station's launch in 1992. His keen intuition and strong grasp of diverse meteorological tools have translated over the years into the delivery of consistently accurate weathercasts. Although Kelley has been studying weather since he was a child, his formal training in meteorology was gleaned at Lyndon State College in Vermont. He began his career at WMUR-TV in New Hampshire, then spent three years as a meteorologist and environmental reporter at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Since his debut on NECN March 2, 1992, he has been vigilant about tracking weather in his journal. He has logged the weather every single day that NECN has been on air. A Cape Cod native, Kelley grew up in a family of hard working fishermen and builders. Because he does not like getting stuck out at sea, he found a way to make a living as a landlubber. Danielle NilesDanielle Niles is the weekday morning meteorologist for NECN, delivering forecasts on NECN Morning and The Morning Show. A Weymouth, Mass. native, Niles joined NECN in November 2008. She was previously employed at Weather Services International in Andover, MA, as a forecaster for private energy companies. "I am absolutely thrilled to be working in New England, forecasting with such a dedicated and talented Weather Team at a news station that is well-respected across the entire region," Niles says. "I have had a passion for the weather ever since I was a little girl, and working as a broadcast meteorologist has always been a dream of mine." Ever since she was young, Danielle has shared an enthusiasm for severe weather, blizzards, thunderstorms and hurricanes to name a few. She has even been storm chasing in the Midwest where she saw her first tornado. Niles is a 2006 cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts/Lowell where she earned her bachelor's degree in atmospheric science, and was captain of the women's varsity soccer team. Matt NoyesMatt Noyes is the primetime weeknight meteorologist for NECN. He began as the weekend meteorologist at NECN in 2002, and served as weekday morning meteorologist starting in 2004. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Cornell University, and is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Matt enjoys making the weather interesting and accessible to all. In addition to his forecasting experience, Noyes was an instructor of Introductory Meteorology at the college level in Binghamton, NY. He spearheaded the idea for NECN's "Weather Word Contest" and "Sky Scenes" segments, and has traveled across New England to bring the science of meteorology into school classrooms, receiving a commendation from the Massachusetts State Senate for his educational efforts with children. Matt's community dedication also earned him the Massachusetts State Police Public Service Award for assisting the organization in preparation for a major hurricane strike to New England, and he provided his services to the organization for street level weather forecasting and analysis during the Democratic National Convention in 2004. Noyes also conducts private forecasting for aviators, providing forecasts that have led to national victories in races requiring no use of instrumentation during flight. Billy CostaBilly Costa has been the host of NECN's TV Diner, a restaurant review program, since 1992. A native of Cambridge, MA, Costa attended Merrimack College on a hockey scholarship before transferring to Emerson College and graduating with a degree in English. While in college, he fell in love with DJ-ing at Emerson's WERS, and worked briefly at WBOS-FM after graduating. In 1980, Billy joined KISS 108 as an entertainment and lifestyle reporter. He has been co-hosting the Matty in the Morning show with Matt Siegel for the past 15 years, and is also the well-received host of the KISS Top 30 Countdown of Today's Hit Music. Costa's television career has included entertainment reporting for WBZ-4 where he won a Children's Television Award for the youth oriented talk show Rap Around, and received an Emmy nomination for his work on Evening Magazine. Jenny JohnsonJenny Johnson has been the Executive Producer of NECN's restaurant show, TV Diner, since 2007, and is the star of the TV Diner segment, The Jenny Cam. She is also NECN's Culture and Lifestyle Reporter. Raised in Marblehead, Mass., Jenny graduated with honors from the University of New Hampshire where she majored in Communications. She spent a semester in Florence, Italy where she studied interior design and art history. After graduating, she spent 6 months volunteering at an orphanage in a township outside of Cape Town, South Africa. Upon returning, Jenny began her first job hosting a talk show for a start up television station XYtv run by "Open House Party" creator John Garabedian. "Secret Lives" explored relationships among people in the X and Y generations. After hosting, writing and producing pieces for "Secret Lives," she became associate producer of NECN's TV Diner in the fall of 2005. Since January of 2007, Jenny has also been an on-air correspondent for the show, starring in the "Jenny Cam" segment, where she travels around New England discovering hip and trendy spots. She also takes the viewers inside the hottest and most exclusive events in Boston. Paul GuzziPaul Guzzi is president and chief executive officer of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, one of the region's leading business associations. Mr. Guzzi brings extensive experience in both business and government to his work at the Chamber. A former Massachusetts secretary of state and chief secretary to the Governor, as well as a member of the management teams of two Fortune 500 companies, he is a leading advocate for economic development and job creation. Prior to leading the Chamber, Mr. Guzzi was vice president of state and community affairs for Boston College. Previously, he was a consultant for Heidrick & Struggles, an international recruitment and consulting firm. Mr. Guzzi also served as a vice president at Data General Corporation and as a senior vice president at Wang Laboratories. During his tenure at Wang, he worked closely with Dr. An Wang to oversee the restoration and transformation of what is now the Wang Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Guzzi began his public service career as a state representative from Newton in 1970. He was elected Massachusetts secretary of state in 1974. Mr. Guzzi served as a chief of staff for Governor Edward King and chief administrator of the Board of Regents of Public Higher Education. A graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Guzzi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in government. He completed the Harvard Business School Management Development Program. He was also an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. In addition to his leadership at the Chamber, Mr. Guzzi is co-host of This Week in Business, a weekly television program on NECN. Mr. Guzzi is a weekly guest on "On the Record," a segment that airs on New England Business Day on NECN, and appears every week on WBZ-AM 1030. Among his civic activities, Mr. Guzzi serves as a trustee of the Wang Center for the Performing Arts; is a director of The Partnership, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Edgewater Technology Corporation; and is a member of the advisory boards of the Boston Club and the Kennedy School Taubman Center for State and Local Government. Bill BridgenAs executive vice president and general manager of New England Cable News (NECN) and Comcast SportsNet New England (CSN), Bill Bridgen is focused on positioning the networks as the premier destinations for regional news and sports information by developing new programming and attracting new audiences. Bridgen oversees both networks' operations, including programming, distribution, and ad sales. He joined CSN in January 2008 following Comcast's acquisition of the network in June of 2007. Bridgen assumed leadership of NECN in June 2009 following Comcast's acquisition of the regional cable news network from Hearst. NECN is the largest, most honored 24-hour regional news network in the country, with more than 3 million subscribers in nearly 1,120 cities and towns in all six New England states. The station specializes in long-form journalism, producing documentaries and extensive local and national political coverage. Comcast SportsNet New England reaches more than 4 million homes in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont with live sports programming, led by the 17-time NBA Champion Boston Celtics. Prior to joining Fox, Mr. Bridgen was a partner at Keesal, Young & Logan, a Los Angeles-area securities law firm. Mr. Bridgen earned his law degree from Temple University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management with a minor in Political Science from Gettysburg College.
