Misaki

The Far East meets Cape Cod at Misaki in Hyannis Mass and it’s pure bliss combining fresh local fish with traditional Japanese favorites. Located in a neat, but otherwise, non descript building, Misaki which means “beautiful Cape Cod” is home to fresh and simple Japanese cuisine. The dining room is intimate and the mood is low key. Misaki offers a small sushi bar and full liquor license.

We begin with a refreshing and light small salad - a bowl of greens covered with a tangy Asian-inspired dressing. Onto the Cape Cod rolls, prepared “inside out” with sushi rice, white fish, cucumbers, scallions and spicy sauce – deliciously fresh. For the Main meal we sampled the Sushi and Sashimi Combo, which included tuna and salmon rolls and sashimi including crab, octopus, and white fish. This sashimi was some of the best and freshest we have ever tasted! Next was the Tiger Prawn Shrimp sautéed in garlic butter and served over oriental wheat noodles and mushrooms in a soupy teriyaki sauce. The juicy shrimp were swimming in the tasty broth and the side of white rice helped to soak up the plentiful sauce.

Misaki offers a limited dessert menu. But we enjoyed the green tea ice cream and the restaurant’s specialty - tempura bananas – They were fried in a cinnamon batter and served with ginger ice cream. The splendid bananas were crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside and the unique ginger ice cream added depth of flavor to this wonderful dessert.

There was a bit of a language barrier with our servers who did not seem to have complete knowledge of the menu, but the owner was always nearby and friendly. Portions were typical for a sushi restaurant with good value for the high quality ingredients with Appetizers ranging from $3 to $7 Entrees between $12 and $25 and Desserts under $3. Misaki also offers most of its dishes for take-out.

Overall Misaki will earn the Gold Plate for its wonderful Japanese cuisine right in the heart of Cape Cod. Misaki is located at 379 West Main St. in Hyannis MA. Give them a call at 508-771-3771 or get them online at www.misakisushi.com
