Nuns, nude male model upset Catholic Church

(NECN) - Some members of the Catholic Church are upset with a new ad in the latest issue of Boston magazine.

It's for the Equinox Fitness Club and features a few nuns and a nude male model.

The Catholic League, the Archdiocese of Boston and the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts are all blasting the ad.

Meanwhile, Equinox is defending the ad. In a written statement, spokeswoman for Equinox Fitness Clubs, Judy Taylor says, "Our ad campaigns are based on personal motivation and fantasy and throughout history the body has been considered a form of art."

Plane turned on side at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Emergency crews responded to a small Federal Express cargo plane that had turned onto its side this afternoon on a taxiway at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, possibly the result of strong winds.

There was no word of any injuries and planes were seen landing and taking off near the scene.

WMUR reports that the plane, a Cessna 205, was not in line for takeoff and was believed to be undergoing maintenance. The wind gust was 30-35 miles per hour in the area.

The plane was towed away at about 5 p.m.

Corporations encourage employee blood donations

(NECN) - For the fourth year in a row, NECN and the American Red Cross are teaming up to celebrate the gift of life.

The hope is to collect up to 2,008 units of blood in Wednesday's drive and there is still time to donate.

On a normal day, 250-300 New Hampshire residents donate blood, but on Wednesday, the numbers were much higher.

Judge rejects plea in Ribeiro liposuction case

(NECN) - On Wednesday, a Massachusetts judge rejected the guilty plea of a Brazilian doctor in the case of a woman who died after complications with liposuction surgery.

Under questioning from the judge, Luiz Carlos Ribeiro said he disagreed with several claims by prosecutors. Consequently, the judge refused to accept the plea and said the case would go to trial.

New Hampshire reconsiders death penalty rules

The July 2nd killings at the Army Barracks Store in Conway, New Hampshire have led lawmakers to consider expanding the state’s death penalty law.

The shootings left three men -- James Walker, William Jones, and Gary Jones dead. But under current law, the admitted shooter, Michael Woodbury, could not be considered for capital punishment.

The plea deal that followed the killings let Michael Woodbury choose the prison where he'd spend his life and left the victims’ families with a void of justice.

MBTA launches trial WiFi service

(NECN) - The MBTA has launched a WiFi test program on the Worcester/Framingham commuter rail line. The program lets commuters plug in laptop computers, cell phones and other electronic devices to the internet during the rides to and from South Station.

Lt. Governor Tim Murray says the program is a step toward improving Internet access throughout the commuter rail system. He also says it will help improve productivity.

At least one coach on each train will be enabled with a wireless router. Other commuter rail lines may also have WiFi access on occasion.

MBTA testing Wi-Fi service

(NECN) - Some Massachusetts commuters can surf the net on the way to work starting Wednesday morning.

The MBTA is testing a free Wi-Fi program on the Worcester to Framingham line.

Man arraigned for Webster double shooting

(NECN) - 38-year-old William Goddard of Worcester, Mass. was in Dudley District court Tuesday. He is charged with one count of murder and multiple counts of assault.

On Monday morning, police say Goddard entered Action Crash Parts in Webster. According to court documents, he fatally shot Kelly Brackley, a mother of five, and then injured her co-worker. Goddard then fled, setting off a seven-hour manhunt before being arrested in Berlin.

2 Worcester bridges in need of repair

(NECN) - Most drivers agree that driving over bridges is something they do without a second thought. However, on Tuesday, some were thinking twice when they heard that there are 10 Bay State bridges in immediate need of repair.

Rudy Santana said he was surprised to learn that one of the bridges he routinely drives over - the Lake Quinisigamond bridge on Route 9 in Shrewsbury, Mass., made the list. It is one of two in Worcester County identified by the state as structurally unsound. The other is the Route 12 bridge in Leominster.
