NEW YORK (AP) - It was about fascination with big money - and the life of a couple at the center of the biggest financial fraud case in U.S. history.

Bernard and Ruth Madoff's belongings fetched several times their estimated values at auction Saturday for a total of about $1 million, twice as much as the auctioneers had hoped for.

The fallen financier's blue satin New York Mets baseball jacket with his surname stitched on the back, valued at up to $720, sold for $14,500. The jacket carries its own special meaning: Team

Funerals held for Fort Hood victims

(NECN) - Funerals are being held today around the country for six of the 13 people killed at Fort Hood.

Army psychiatrist Mjr. Nidal Malik Hasan is accused of opening fire at a processing center on November 5.

Saturday, Pres. Obama asked Congress to delay holding hearings on the shootings until the law enforcement and military investigations are complete.

(NECN) - President Obama is calling on Congress to delay any investigation of the Fort Hood massacre.

In his weekly address, the President says lawmakers should wait until law enforcement and military official complete their probes.

But he says once officials have the facts, they must act upon them.

Trial for 9/11 suspects stirs controversy

(NECN: Greg Wayland) - This morning it was announced that alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, along with four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be sent to New York to face trial in a Federal Court.

The Guantanamo detainees could be transferred to Manhattan within the next 45 days.

The ringleader of the 9/11 attacks was Mohammed Atta. He died in the attacks.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed allegedly conceived the idea, got the funding from Osama Bin Laden and trained the terrorists.

Balloon boy parents enter guilty pleas

(NECN/ABC) - The Colorado parents, whose spectacular hoax grabbed national attention, have added another chapter to the saga. Richard and Mayumi Heene stood before a judge this morning and pleaded guilty.

The two had claimed their son was adrift in a helium balloon, a scam perpetrated in hopes of landing the family a reality television show.

Richard and Mayumi Heene arrived at a Fort Collins, Colorado courthouse almost a month after launching the balloon, and the hoax.

AG Holder: 9/11 suspects heading to NY for trial

(NECN: Washington) - Self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be sent to New York for trial in a civilian federal court and prosecutors expect to seek the death penalty, Attorney General Eric Holder announced this morning.

The attorney general said five other suspects, including a major suspect in the bombing of the USS Cole, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, will be tried before a military commission.

Lawyer: Hasan alert during first meeting

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's lawyer says the accused Fort Hood shooter was coherent during their first meeting in a hospital intensive care unit.

Attorney John Galligan told the CBS "Early Show" on Friday that Hasan was alert but began to fade toward the end of their hour-long meeting Thursday.

Hasan was charged Thursday with 13 counts of premeditated murder in the attack at the sprawling Texas post that also left 29 people injured. The Army psychiatrist was shot several times and remains hospitalized. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

Flooding, outages in Nor'easter's wake

(NECN/ABC) - Massive flooding, power outages and powerful winds toppled trees were all remnants of a rare November hurricane that regrouped into a deadly Nor'easter.

The storm stretches from Virginia to Massachusetts, with more high winds and tides expected through the weekend.

As this storm barreled north from the Gulf of Mexico, it left a path of destruction.

In North Carolina, heavy rains washed away roads and left dangerous sinkholes.
