(NECN: Fort Hood, TX) - John McHugh, the Secretary of the U.S. Army, held a news conference this afternoon to update the public on the deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage.

Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan is the suspect in the shooting that killed 13 people and wounded 30 others on Thursday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are particularly with those families of the fallen," said McHugh.

General George Casey, Army Chief of Staff, says "we are an Army that draws strength from diversity."

Casey has asked Army leaders across the country to review force protection measures.

(NECN: Orlando, Fla.) - Officials in Orlando, Florida, say an office building gunman has been apprehended after killing one person and injuring five others.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says the OPD and the residents have been extremely cooperative.

Orlando Police Chief Val Demings says 40-year-old Jason Rodriguez surrendered to police at his mother's home after officers saw him through a window and asked him to come out.

The motive of the shooting is unknown at this time.

(NECN: Orlando, Fla.) - Officials are searching for a gunman who opened fire in a downtown Orlando, Florida, office building today.

There are six people believed to have been hurt. Their conditions are not known at this time.

The gunman is believed to be 40-year-old Jason Rodriguez. He might be in a 2002 silver Nissan SUV with license plate D119UX.

He is considered armed and dangerous. He is believed to be a former employee of a company in the building.

SWAT teams are on the scene. This remains a very active investigation.

(NECN: Orlando, Fla.) - The Legions Place office building in downtown Orlando, Florida, is on lockdown after gun shots were fired.

Officials say the shooter is still on the loose. The shooter has not been identified at this time.

Orange County Sheriff's Spokesman Jim Solomons says his department is backing up Orlando police and they're still looking for an armed man wearing a light blue polo shirt and jeans.

The jubilant baseball players are riding on parade floats to City Hall Plaza, where the mayor will give them keys to the city.

The national unemployment rate has hit the double-digit mark. The jobless rate hit 10.2% last month, the highest since 1983. The rate was 9.8% in September.

Obama noted legislation he's signing to provide additional unemployment benefits to people thrown out of work. And he said, "I will not rest until all Americans who want work can find work."

"We don't know all the answers yet, and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts," said Obama.

"From now until Veterans Day, I have ordered the flags at the White House and other federal buildings to be flown at half staff," said Obama.

(NECN: N. Attleboro, Mass.) - A Marine helicopter pilot from North Attleboro, Massachusetts, is being laid to rest today.

A funeral service for Captain Kyle Van De Giesen was held this morning at St. Mary's Church in North Attleboro.

A procession through town and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow.

A candlelight vigil for Van De Giesen was held last night at the football field where the former quarterback led the local high school football team to many victories.

(NECN: Fort Hood, TX) - UPDATE: Army: Fort Hood shootings suspect is alive; death toll from attack remains 12.

The United States Army says 12 people are dead and 31 wounded after a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas.

Lt. Gen Bob Cone says the shootings began around 1:30 p.m. and that all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.

He says the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - 23-year-old David Krejci of the Boston Bruins has been diagnosed with the H1N1 (swine) flu.

"We just gotta deal with our own issues and hope that he gets better quickly," said head coach Claude Julien.

"We do the best we can...there is no guarantees, we are all vulnerable to it," said Julien.

"He needs to be quarantined until he is symptom-free," said Julien.

"We've installed a bunch of hand sanitizers," said Julien.
