Uncut: Obama reacts to Kennedy endorsement

(NECN) - Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy endorses Barack Obama (D) for president.

Kennedy is a liberal icon with a broad national fundraising and political network.

At a rally in Washington, D.C., Kennedy was joined by his son, Congressman Patrick Kennedy and by his niece Caroline, the daughter of John F. Kennedy.

In remarks that included scarcely-veiled criticism of Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband, Kennedy said Obama had opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning -- and that no one should be allowed to "deny that truth."

(NECN) - Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination on Monday as a "man with extraordinary gifts of leadership and character."

"I feel change in the air," Kennedy said in prepared remarks salted with scarcely veiled criticism of Obama's chief rival for the nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, as well as her husband, the former president.

Kennedy's endorsement was ardently sought by all three of the remaining presidential contenders, and he delivered it at a pivotal time in the race.

(NECN) - With a little more than a week until the February 5th CT primary, Sen. Hillary Clinton spoke Monday morning at a town hall in Hartford. The Learning Corridor was filled with hundreds of people as she spoke about her focus on the economy and health care.

Endorsed by the Hartford Courant she is considered more experienced and better prepared than Obama. In a recent poll, she was supported by 41% of likely Democrats, compared to 27% for Senator Barack Obama and 9% for former Senator John Edwards.

NECN Extra: Patriots arrive in Arizona

(NECN) - There is one week and counting until Super Bowl XLII. The Giants don't head out to Arizona until tomorrow, but the Patriots have made their way to Scottsdale, AZ the team's home for the week.

The Pats chartered jet arrived at around 7pm Eastern time Sunday, and the whole team was there, including Tom Brady who had not been seen for days until Sunday morning's rally at Gillette Stadium.

(NECN) - John McCain and Mitt Romney are neck and neck atop the Florida polls ahead of Tuesday's GOP primary. The two held campaign rallies in the Sunshine state Sunday, each looking to gain the edge on the other.

John McCain was introduced by his wife at a town square rally at the Savannah Center, and his main focus was the troops and ensuring that they get the proper care they deserve and need.
