Ousted Honduran President won't recognize vote

(NECN/APTV) - Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya insisted on Saturday that he will not accept any deal to restore him to office if it means he must recognize elections later this month.

In a letter addressed to US President Barack Obama, Zelaya also repeated his accusation that Washington has reversed its stance on the legitimacy of those elections.

Hong Kong cargo ship and South Korean fishing boat collide killing 4, 3 missing

(NECN/APTV) - A South Korean fishing boat collided with a Hong Kong cargo ship off South Korea's southern island of Jeju on Saturday, killing four Koreans and leaving three others missing.

Local coast guard officer Kim Young-bong said the two ships collided in high seas on Saturday night.

Kim said the collision left three of the fishing boat's nine crew members dead and three others missing.

He said the rest were rescued by the Hong Kong vessel shortly after the collision.

South Korean and Japanese coast guard ships and helicopters are searching for the missing crew.

President Obama in Singapore for important meeting

(NECN/ABC) - President Obama is in Singapore for the Asian Pacific economic cooperation's summit.

His first one as president and after posing for the traditional class photo in native garb.

He got to work talking about economic and trade issues, but even though he's at this APEC summit the most important meeting he had was not with an Asian leader and had nothing to do with economics.

(NECN/ABC News) - President Obama continues on his first official state visit to Asia where he is meeting with leaders to discuss a variety of topics including American foreign policy and the world economy.

But he also took time out express his feelings about being "America's first Pacific president." ..

(NECN/ABC News) - He may be thousands of miles from home, but that did not deter President Obama from addressing issues that directly effect American foreign policy and its future.

Saturday morning, Pres. Obama delivered remarks in Tokyo's Suntory Hall before a scheduled visit to U.S. embassy employees and families.

Taking the stage at a cavernous Tokyo concert hall, President Obama called himself the first "Pacific" American president.

He was born in Hawaii, spent years as a child in Indonesia, and claimed that has shaped his vision of the world.

Weather wrecks havoc on UK

(NECN/SKY) - Heavy rain and winds of up to 100 miles an hour caused flooding, closed roads and disrupted transport across southern Britain on Saturday.

The country's worst storm this year triggered flash floods in coastal regions and scores of motorists had to be rescued from their cars.

In several areas trees toppled onto cars and power lines.

A gust of 100 mph was recorded on Saturday at Needles, on the Isle of Wight, and 60 houses were damaged by a tornado in the town Benfleet, east of London.

Huge explosion rocks Russian ammunition depot

(NECN/RU-RTR) - Huge explosions and fire rocked a Russian ammunition depot on Friday, leaving dozens of people missing and prompting the evacuation of thousands of civilians nearby, officials and Russian news agencies said.

The blasts and fire erupted while ammunition was being destroyed at the arsenal in the Ulyanovsk province, according to the Federal Security Service branch in the region, 430 miles east of Moscow.

The explosions and fire continued to rage for hours.

9 killed when train derails in western India

(NECN/TV TODAY) - A speeding train derailed in western India early on Saturday killing at least nine people and injuring more than 80 others.

Fifteen coaches of the New Delhi-bound train flew off tracks when its driver suddenly applied the brakes because of poor visibility in the region, said Vipin Kumar Pande, superintendent of police.

The accident occurred near Banshkov, a village nearly 25 miles south of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state.

A broken rail track pierced an air-conditioned coach and killed some of the passengers, Pande told The Associated Press.

President Obama continues overseas trip in Singapore

(NECN/ABC) - President Obama woke up in Singapore, after 24 hours on the ground in Japan.

The President met with the Emperor and Empress, but spent the bulk of his time with the Prime Minister.

He reaffirmed the US/Japan alliance, a relationship that's been strained in part over the American military presence.

The President said Japan and the entire Pacific region are critical to America's economic future.

The President's focus on the economy comes at a crucial time.

China is now America's largest creditor and there are concerns in the region about the increasing US deficit.
