President Obama in Singapore for important meeting

(NECN/ABC) - President Obama is in Singapore for the Asian Pacific economic cooperation's summit.

His first one as president and after posing for the traditional class photo in native garb.

He got to work talking about economic and trade issues, but even though he's at this APEC summit the most important meeting he had was not with an Asian leader and had nothing to do with economics.

(NECN/ABC News) - He may be thousands of miles from home, but that did not deter President Obama from addressing issues that directly effect American foreign policy and its future.

Saturday morning, Pres. Obama delivered remarks in Tokyo's Suntory Hall before a scheduled visit to U.S. embassy employees and families.

Taking the stage at a cavernous Tokyo concert hall, President Obama called himself the first "Pacific" American president.

He was born in Hawaii, spent years as a child in Indonesia, and claimed that has shaped his vision of the world.

(NECN) - President Obama is calling on Congress to delay any investigation of the Fort Hood massacre.

In his weekly address, the President says lawmakers should wait until law enforcement and military official complete their probes.

But he says once officials have the facts, they must act upon them.

Patrick Kennedy urges Senate candidates to support health care bill

(NECN: John Moroney) - Senate candidates Martha Coakley and Michael Capuano have clashed over an anti-abortion amendment in the House health care reform bill. Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy, the son of the late Massachusetts Senator is telling the candidates to take their lead from his father.

Nancy Pelosi was in Boston to endorse Michael Capuano in the race to replace Senator Ted Kennedy. The House Speaker praised her colleague for helping her get a health care bill through the House.

Obama: Japan is model for peaceful nuclear production

(NECN: Tokyo, Japan) - President Barack Obama says Japan is a model of success that comes when a nation develops technology solely for peaceful production.

"Japan serves as an example to the world that true peace and power can be achieved by taking this path," Obama said. "For decades Japan has enjoyed the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy while rejecting nuclear arms development."

Speaking in Tokyo, the president said the United States must redouble its efforts to reduce the threats from nuclear weapons.

Pelosi: Health bill would limit abortion access

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - Speaker Nancy Pelosi is agreeing with critics who say an amendment included in the health care bill passed by the House would additionally limit access to abortion.

Pelosi on Friday acknowledged the scope of the amendment despite the fact that she said one of her goals is that access to abortion not be further limited by the health care overhaul.

The amendment's proponents says it simply ensures a long-standing ban on using federal dollars for elective abortions. Critics say the amendment would make it harder for millions of

Obama: Many factors in pending Afghan troop decision

(NECN: Tokyo, Japan) - President Barack Obama said that a decision would come soon on Afghanistan, saying he did not want the next move to be seen as an "open-ended commitment."

On Afghanistan, Mr. Obama said he was not waiting for any new information. Rather, he said, he wants to be sure he strikes the right balance before committing more U.S. troops and billions of dollars to the 8-year-old conflict.

Pagliuca clarifies military draft stance

(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Boston, Mass.) - With a little more than three weeks left until the democratic primary for Massachusetts' vacant U.S. Senate seat, the candidates are trying to separate themselves from the pack.

In their first radio debate on Boston's WTKK talk radio, Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca stood out - but in a way he later regretted.

"I would support a military draft because I think it talks about equality, so I'd support a draft," said Pagliuca, "I don't think I'd support a civil service requirement."
