Fire bounce Revs from playoffs, 3-2 on aggregate

(NECN/FSC: Chicago, Ill.) - Despite holding a 2-1 aggregate lead coming into the second leg of its conference semi finals series against the Chicago Fire, the New England Revolution were bounced from the MLS Playoffs on Saturday night.

John Thorrington and Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored for the Fire in its 2-0 second leg victory, topping the Revolution 3-2 on aggregate.

Blanco's goal came with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Chicago moves on to host Real Salt Lake next Saturday in the Eastern Conference Final.

Bruins back in swing of things, win 4-2

BOSTON (AP) - Mark Recchi and Zdeno Chara scored first-period power-play goals as the goal-starved Boston Bruins halted a rough stretch with a 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday night, sending the Sabres to their first consecutive losses of the season.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bruins, who had scored just once in their previous three games - that coming with 52 seconds remaining in regulation of a 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal in its last game on Thursday.

Suns knock Celtics from unbeaten 110-103

BOSTON (AP) - Jason Richardson bounced back from his worst game of the season to score 34 points with 10 rebounds, and the Phoenix Suns rebounded from their only defeat to beat the Boston Celtics 110-103 on Friday night.

Kevin Garnett had a season-high 26 points - the most he's scored since missing the end of the 2008-09 season and the playoffs with strained ligaments in his right knee.

Yankees parade through New York to celebrate World Series win

(NECN: New York) - The New York Yankees are celebrating their World Series win with a parade through the city's streets.

The jubilant baseball players are riding on parade floats to City Hall Plaza, where the mayor will give them keys to the city.

Bells will peal at historic Trinity Church.

Lower Broadway is known as the Canyon of Heroes. Some 200 ticker-tape parades have been held there.

Hideki Matsui's record-tying six RBIs helped the Yankees to the 7-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. New York won the series 4-2.

Bergeron, Bruins avoid 3rd straight shutout

BOSTON (AP) - Patrice Bergeron's goal with 52 seconds left in regulation helped the Bruins avoid a historic third straight shutout, but Michael Cammalleri scored in the shootout to give the Montreal Canadiens a 2-1 victory over Boston on Thursday night.

Boston had not scored in 192 minutes, 6 seconds, dating to Vladimir Sobotka's goal at 7:02 of the third period against Edmonton on Saturday. The Bruins had not been shut out in three straight games since Eddie Shore and the 1928-29 squad scored just once over five games from Feb. 2-14, 1929.

Red Sox acquire OF Hermida from Marlins

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - The Boston Red Sox acquired 25-year-old outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Florida Marlins for pitcher Hunter Jones and minor league pitcher Jose Alvarez, the team ammounced today.

Hermida hit .259 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 2009 for the Marlins. The former first-round pick has been nagged by injuries in recent seasons, and has yet to meet the expectations the Marlins had for him when they selected him 11th overall in the 2002 draft.

Julien: Krejci will be quarantined until symptom free

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - 23-year-old David Krejci of the Boston Bruins has been diagnosed with the H1N1 (swine) flu.

"We just gotta deal with our own issues and hope that he gets better quickly," said head coach Claude Julien.

"We do the best we can...there is no guarantees, we are all vulnerable to it," said Julien.

"He needs to be quarantined until he is symptom-free," said Julien.

"We've installed a bunch of hand sanitizers," said Julien.

Bruins' Krejci diagnosed with swine flu; Bergeron says no need to panic

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - Boston Bruins forward David Krejci has been diagnosed with the H1N1 (swine) flu. Today, the 23-year-old's teammates reacted to the news, and what they are doing to avoid the virus and keep their minds on the ice.

"I'm looking forward to tonight. It's my second game against Montreal since last year," said Steve Begin.

"We've been having trouble the last few games...would be great tonight to score some goals," said Begin.

"I hope he gets better. He will," said Thornton. "He'll get healthy and we'll get back to work with him," said Shawn Thornton.

A-Rod, Teixeira enjoy taste of victory with Yankees

(NECN/ESPN: Bronx, N.Y.) - The New York Yankees regained their place at the top of the baseball world Wednesday night, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 of the World Series, claiming the organization's 27th title.

It was a return to glory for longtime Yankees Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Petitte and Jorge Posada. But the victorious taste of champaign was a first Alex Rodriguez and newcomers Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher, to name a few.

Yankees claim title No. 27

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Yankees bolted from the dugout even before the last grounder was scooped up. After waiting nine years for championship No. 27, no one would dare hold them back.

"It feels better than I remember it, man," captain Derek Jeter said. "It's been a long time."

Hideki Matsui tied a World Series record with six RBIs, Andy Pettitte won on short rest and New York beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 on Wednesday night, finally seizing that elusive title - the most in all of sports.
