Belichick calls Patriots loss to Colts 'disappointing'

(NECN: Foxboro, Mass.) - New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick held a press conference this morning to discuss the team's devastating loss to the Indianapolis Colts last night.

The Patriots failed on a fourth-and-two deep in their territory with two minutes to play, giving Peyton Manning a prime opportunity to steal a victory after trailing by 17 points early in the fourth quarter. Manning took advantage, throwing a one-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne with 13 seconds left to give the Colts a 35-34 win over the Patriots.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Bill Belichick's stunning gamble failed, and Peyton Manning took advantage by throwing a 1-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left that rallied the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts over the New England Patriots 35-34 Sunday night.

Manning's toss to Reggie Wayne completed the Colts' comeback from a 17-point deficit. A decision by Belichick put them in position.

The Patriots coach decided to go for it on fourth-and-2 from their own 28 with 2:08 to go. The pass to Kevin Faulk came up short.

Bruins fall in OT to Penguins

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pascal Dupuis scored his second goal of the game 1:24 into overtime and the Pittsburgh Penguins welcomed back star forward Evgeni Malkin by snapping their four-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.

Malkin, the reigning NHL scoring champion, had three assists in his return to the lineup after he missed seven games because of a shoulder injury.

Celtics drop second straight, fall to Pacers 113-104

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Danny Granger scored 29 points and Dahntay Jones added a season-high 25, helping the Pacers defeat the Boston Celtics 113-104 on Saturday night.

Granger was 6 of 9 on 3-pointers, had six rebounds and four assists after promising Wednesday night that the Pacers (4-3) would win their fourth straight.

Boston (8-3) was led by Ray Allen, who had a season-high 24 but lost its second straight.

Shinskie lifts Boston College past Virginia, 14-10

HARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Dave Shinskie's 1-yard sneak on fourth down gave Boston College the lead and the Eagles handed Virginia its fourth straight loss Saturday, 14-10.

The Eagles (7-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) kept their hopes alive to win the ACC's Atlantic Division thanks to a 70-yard fourth-quarter drive that included two fourth-down conversions.

Chess-boxing combines two old forms of battle

(NECN/ABC) - It's a sport you literally have to see to believe.

For three minutes a group of boxers go head to head in the ring, and once the next round begins they break out a chess table.

Organizers, who want this to become an Olympic sport, say Chess Boxing has a civilizing effect upon human aggression.

ABC News correspondent Mike Lee reports on the new sport that is combining two very old forms of battle.

Hawks soar past Celtics

BOSTON (AP) - The youthful Atlanta Hawks are starting to grow up.

Joe Johnson scored 24 points, Jamal Crawford had 18 and the Hawks pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 97-86 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.

"We needed to beat a good team on the road for our confidence level," Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said. "I think that's the best team in the East. Tonight we matched them from beginning to end. From a defensive standpoint, we finally stepped up and played 48 minutes defensively."

BC suspends 3 players for 2 games

BOSTON (AP) - Boston College has suspended three players, two of them starters, for two games for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Forwards Corey Raji and Rakim Sanders will miss Friday night's opener against Dartmouth and Tuesday's game against St. Francis, N.Y. Cortney Dunn also will sit out the first two games.

All three players are juniors. Raji and Sanders started every game last year.

Vokoun, Panthers beat Bruins 1-0 in shootout

BOSTON (AP) - Tomas Vokoun stopped 40 shots for his third shutout of the season, and Cory Stillman scored in a shootout to give the Florida Panthers a 1-0 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.

Boston's Tim Thomas made 23 saves in regulation and overtime to extend his shutout streak to 172 minutes, 28 seconds. He stopped the first three Florida attempts in the shootout, but Stillman beat him on the glove side to end it.

The Bruins have not lost in regulation on their four-game homestand.

Florida snapped a two-game losing streak.
