Rodney Harrison: "We can play better"

(NECN) - After the Patriots 31-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, safety Rodney Harrison spoke to the media and said the tem can play much better. Harrison had an interception late in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for the Patriots.

Seau looking forward to next game

(NECN) - Junior Seau is ready to get back to work on Tuesday and prepare for the AFC Championship game. Seau said Saturday night's game was very physical, and adjustments were made at halftime so that they were able to hold the Jaguars offense to only six points in the second half.

Celtics handed another loss

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Wizards rallied from a seven-point, fourth-quarter deficit and closed the game with a 15-4 run for an 85-78 victory over Boston on Saturday night. The suddenly human Celtics have lost two out of three.

Both teams showed the after-effects of tough games the night before. Boston finished with 21 turnovers and had its lowest point total of the year. The Wizards had 20 turnovers and made only two of 18 three-pointers. But they out-rebounded the Celtics 49-to-30, made 27 of 30 free throws and had the fortitude needed in the fourth quarter.

Patriots advance to AFC title game

(NECN) - The New England Patriots have advanced to their second straight AFC championship beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-20. Tom Brady was near perfect completing all but two of his 28 passes. Although the Jacksonville rushing game was hyped up before the game, it was the Patriots Laurence Maroney who dominated on the ground. The Pats defense held the Jaguars Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew to a combined 66 yards. The pair was the second most productive running game during the regular season.

Patriots beat Jacksonville 31-20

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Tom Brady was nearly perfect for the New England Patriots, who are still perfect with their 17th victory this season, a thorough 31-20 win over Jacksonville in the AFC divisional playoffs. The Patriots will host the winner of Sunday's Indianapolis-San Diego game next Sunday for a trip to the Super Bowl.

Brady completed his first 16 passes and tossed three touchdown passes in their victory. Brady finished 26-of-28 for 262 yards. Laurence Maroney ran for 122 yards and one TD to compliment Brady's passing.

Bruins skate past Flyers, 4-3

(NECN)- The Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in overtime Saturday. Defenseman Aaron Ward scored the game-winner just 43 seconds into the extra period. Marc Savard had a goal and an assist for the Bruins and goalie Alex Auld made 21 saves. The victory snaps a two game losing streak for the black and gold, who face the Maple Leafs this Thursday.

Pats fans prepare for playoff game

(NECN)- There was more energy than normal outside of Gillette Stadium Saturday, as the Patriots prepared to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Many consider the playoffs to be the "second season", but distinct remnants of the perfect one that just concluded permeated throughout the parking lot.

Just as the players prepared so did the fans. Excited for the big playoff game, many arrived extra early to enjoy the atmosphere. NECN's Stephen Iandoli has more from Gillette Stadium.

World Series trophies showcased in CT

(NECN) - Red Sox team president and CEO Larry Lucchino brought the team's World Series trophies to Connecticut Friday for a tour that started in New Haven, proceeded to Waterbury and ended in Hartford where hundreds of grateful fans started lining up at noon for an event that started at two.

Lucchino wants to make sure CT fans know they are appreciated.

Dogsledding attracts tourists in Maine

(NECN) - Polly Mahoney and Kevin Slater run Mahoosuc Guide Service in Newry, Maine, near Sunday River Ski Resort.

During the winter, they guide dogsledding trips and share their love of nature and the animals.

Polly says people used to think of dogsledding as something people could only do in Alaska but that the image is changing.

More people are training their own teams in Maine or just coming for a day.

Jones will spend time behind bars

(NECN) - Track star Marion Jones has been sentenced to six months in prison for lying about using steroids and a check-fraud scam.

Jones was also given two years probation and supervised release.

The former Olympian has been ordered to surrender by March 11 to begin her term.
