Worcester plumbing museum packs up

(NECN) - Worcester's American Sanitary Plumbing museum will close its doors at the end of February.

Bettejane Manoog opened the museum with her husband, Russell, 20 years ago.

It houses toilets, tubs, plumbers' tools and pipes, some dating back to the 1700's. The Manoogs are giving their collection to an industry trade association.

It will all be packed up in March and housed in a new museum in Watertown, Mass.

Mary Connaughton on toll hikes

(NECN) - The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority is no longer an independent authority with its own pile of revenue and ample resources for future needs.

The latest blow is a warning that a recent round of toll hikes is just one of many that will be required for the turnpike to meet basic maintenance requirements.

Dow recovers from early slide

(NECN) - It started with a thud, but ended on a more positive note. In the first three minutes of trading Tuesday, the Dow Jones 30 Industrials lost 450 points, before slowly climbing out of the hole as the session wore on.

Fed cuts interest rates to 3.5%

(NECN) - An ailing U.S. market proved contagious for markets overseas. In response to the red arrows overseas, the Federal Reserve prescribed more cuts. The U.S. central bank slashed interest rates by 75 basis points to 3.5%.

The Fed's move was earlier and bigger than expected. It is the largest cut in the Fed funds in more than two decades in advance of its regularly scheduled meetings next week. ABC's Linsey Davis has details.

The police Segway gives officers an edge over crowds while also offering maneuverability at sprint speeds without the exhaustion and the mad dash. 2007 brought Segway a 125% increase in growth in the public safety sector. (NECN) - The Federal Reserve tried to beat recession to the punch Tuesday.

The nation's Central Bank stepped in with a sudden interest rate cut as stock market's worldwide were reeling on fears that the U.S. slump would be contagious.

The bank slashed interest rates by 75 basis points to 3.5%.

Still, Wall Street's opening bell signaled an initial freefall of more than 450 points.

The cut, which wasn't expected to come until the Fed's scheduled meeting next week, is the biggest in more than two decades.
