Soaring ceilings and expanses of glass create a bright, open and airy feeling to the interior of THE RICE BARN, a welcome addition to Needham, Massachusetts' ever expanding dining scene. Visiting THE RICE BARN for a weekday lunch we were warmly greeted and seated quickly at a table with views of one of Needhams most bustling main streets.

After studying the expansive menu we decided to start off with chicken satay. Though a traditional dish, these large skewers of tender grilled chicken served with an extra thick peanut sauce for dipping were as good as it gets. Next up, the crispy Thai spring rolls with a slightly spicy kick, contained the perfect mix of vegetables and glass noodles.

For dinner, the Beef with yellow curry was irresistible, both spicy and sweet, the beef simmered in coconut milk with pineapples and tomatoes to achieve its tenderness and flavor. Wok fried chicken with mixed veggies, essentially a stir fry of large pieces of chicken and an array of fresh, colorful vegetables in soy sauce, was also very flavorful.

After loving our meal we couldn't resist trying the honey fried bananas AND an order of house-made chocolate-basil ice cream. The refreshing chocolatey ice cream which was harder in consistency then your typical ice cream was the perfect compliment to the warm bananas which oozed from their crispy wrappers when cut into with a fork.

Lunch at THE RICE BARN is very reasonably priced with appetizers averaging under $7, and entrees falling around $10. Waitstaff was attentive and very pleasant. Based on exceptional service and a delicious, reasonably priced meal served in a great setting..the Rice Barn will earn the platinum plate!
