MOST RECENT REVIEWS: Review: Fisherman's Catch
Review: Fisherman's Catch

(TV Diner) - Fisherman's Catch can be found on the harbor of beautiful Wells, Maine. It has a reputation of being one of the best seafood shacks around. TV Diner will be the judge of that!

Blue-striped awnings and ships wheels, sporting weathered shingles, marked the Fisherman's Catch in Wells, Maine.

The restaurant was small, but immaculate from shiny floor, to shiny topped picnic tables. Rolls of paper towels hung in a definite Down East decor. The menu was seafood and simple, with very few exceptions.

We started with the New England Clam Chowder self-professed as "Possibly the Best." Creamy and thick with perfectly cooked potatoes and clams, it certainly was one of the best we have had.

Hand cut thick rings of sweet onions fried in an exceptionally light and tasty batter made the Onion Rings outstanding.

The Seafood Platter was prepared with the same batter and piled haddock, clams, scallops and Maine shrimp over fries.

The accompanying condiments and cole slaw were delicious.

Unusual, the Lobster Salad placed hand-picked boiled lobster meat on a multi-vegetable salad-all in all quite good except the lobster was sparse for the price. Baked daily, the Maine Blueberry Pie married flaky crust with sweet fruit.

It was served vanilla a la mode AND with whipped cream and it was quite a treat.

Warmed further by a whiskey caramel sauce topping, the hot Homemade Vanilla Bread Pudding was solid with vanilla and a prize-winner.

Our waitress was professional, prompt and friendly. Prices were varied with appetizers five to thirteen dollars, entrees eight to twenty-one dollars and desserts five-fifty.

The Fisherman's Catch is obviously a seafood mecca for locals and tourists.

The very casual service with Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils and the no frills atmosphere, do NOT overshadow a fine fresh array of local seafood wonderfully and simply prepared.

Overall, Fisherman's Catch earns the Gold Plate.
