Review: Ristorante Molise (TV Diner) - We found Ristorante Molise, in the quintessential New England town center of Amesbury, Massachusetts. With wide terraced front steps, lead to a spacious dining room, that was surrounded by walls of windows. Under a trio of sky lights and a dozen beautiful crystal chandeliers, the extensive four course Italian menu offered many choices.
We opened our meal with the Calamari Fritti. Garlic, olive oil, lemon and diced hot cherry peppers gently fired up the calamari, with just enough heat to complement, but not overpower the crisp calamari. The Carciofi Fritti, tender artichoke hearts, were pan fried and enhanced with a perky wine sauce, that was so good we sponged up every drop with the Italian bread.
Again--- pan fried in olive oil, the Veal and Eggplant Parmesan, that we cut with a fork-- took a traditional Mediterranean dish to new heights, in flavor and texture with a true marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella. The Arrosto Di Pesce coupled sweet sea scallops and flaky haddock fillet with light lemon pepper bread crumbs and olive oil on baby spinach and roasted peppers was exceptional.
Desserts were irresistible, with a turtle cheesecake that was like a confection from the finest candy shop. And a sombrero cake, with six alternate layers of creamy frosting and moist cake.
Service was quick, friendly and competent. Prices were a good value for the exceptional quality and generous quantities. Appetizers came in at $7 to $12, entrees ranged $19 to $24 and desserts were $7. The Ristorante Molise goes beyond olive oil, in bringing Italy to the heart of Amesbury. With an all inclusive menu and a comprehensive wine list served in a lovely setting by an apt and amiable staff, Ristorante Molise earns the Platinum Plate.
