Carmine's (NECN) - In the mood for a little blackjack? We decided to try our luck at the new casino Twin River in Lincoln, RI! And of course we sent someone to eat at Carmine's! Straight from NYC - we've heard that this eatery will tempt the senses - but only TV Diner knows for sure!
Holy cannoli! That famous New York restaurant --- Carmine's (pronounced CAR-MINES) --- has come to New England.
To be exact, Carmine's is one of a dozen places to eat at the new Twin River gaming and entertainment facility in Lincoln, Rhode Island. This video slots casino is only one hour south of Boston.
Carmine's is BIG with soaring ceilings and seating for 300, and it's old-fashioned, just like the neighborhood restaurants of yesteryear in Little Italy. The warm stucco walls are covered with photos from the good old days.
And the food… well, we would never say "forget about it" because the food at Carmine's is truly unforgettable. Enormous portions of southern Italian cuisine are served. Everything is served family-style and comes to the table on huge platters, enough to easily feed six to eight people.
Whatever you do, make sure you order Carmine's Salad a big, beautiful pile of impeccably fresh salad greens accented with roasted tomatoes, hot peppers, black olives, and cubes of Italian ham and provolone cheese. We'd give anything to have the recipe for Carmine's salad dressing!
Another good start is the Zuppa (ZOOPA) di Clams, a sea of tender littleneck's steamed open in a zesty broth that you'll be dipping your bread into.
For our main course, we went with two classic dishes --- Cheese Ravioli topped with a delicious meaty tomato sauce, and Veal Parmigiana, layers and layers of real veal cutlets, lightly breaded and topped with melted cheese and more of that great sauce.
Somehow you just have to save room for dessert so you can see what has to be the biggest dessert on earth. It's called the Titanic with good reason. You'll go down with the ship if you try to finish the mounds of cake, ice cream, profiteroles, whipped cream, fresh fruit, and chocolate sauce that will come sailing over to your table.
Now remember the food comes to your table on huge family-style platters, so don't let the prices scare you. Appetizers are $10 to $27. Entrees are $22 to $28. Desserts are $6 to $23. This is definitely a place where you'll want to bring the whole gang!
Carmine's makes you an offer you can't refuse --- an unbelievable amount of really good Italian food at very fair prices. With a well-trained staff that offers snappy service with a good sense of humor, Carmine's is a sure bet at Twin River.
And for all those reasons, it gets the Platinum Plate.
