Review: Blue Sky(TV DINER) - Occupying the second floor of the newly renovated Atlantic House Hotel in York Beach, Maine, Blue Sky offers upscale dining in a classy contemporary décor.
A central stone fireplace services the cozy lounge as well as the more formal dining space.
The food bar surrounds an open wood burning oven where diners can watch as the creations of internationally recognized Lydia Shire.
We started with the Steamed Mussels in mulled cider. Bacon, leeks and Devonshire cream blended to make the base for the mussels---a phenomenal dish.
The Merriam Vintner's Salad with Robiola cheese, crystallized walnut, and mixed greens for an eloquent salad complemented by the cranberry pistachio bread-which was just one choice in the most eclectic basket of breads.
We chose a Blue Sky signature entrée-broiled lobster with Lydia's tomalley stuffing. With the hot raised potato doughnut glazed with Lydia's golden syrup, it was a stunning dish for the culinary elite!
The Haddock on a Smoked Cedar Shingle partnered with a petit Pork Pie-a sophisticated pair of perfect portions.
The Pecan Pie was unusually dark and delightful. The sweet filling with tender nuts topped a tasty and flaky crust. Another dessert winner was the unique Steamed Chocolate Cake with "Sunshine Sauce."
The moist center made it quite a satisfying indulgence.
Service was flawless with a waitress who made sure nothing was wanting at any time.
Prices seemed high at first, but were actually a good value for portions and quality with appetizers $8 to $14; entrees $14 to $48 and desserts $5 to $7.
Lydia Shire clearly knows how to blend taste and texture to precision with an innovative menu.
Presentation and service are flawless.
Blue Sky earns the Platinum Plate.
