(Review) Da Vinci - Boston,MA

A new Italian joint has opened in the South End called Da Vinci. They're known for handmade pastas and the buzz has seemed favorable - but what does TV Diner think?

Situated in the trendy South End, Boston welcomes Da Vinci Ristorante! Chef Peppino's formerly of La Campania, in Waltham, opens a new modern Italian restaurant. Upon entering, guests are greeted with an elegant, yet comfortable ambiance.. The bar is spacious and inviting, and features a diverse wine list.

We started our meal with the scallops appetizer, which was pan-seared with an artichoke tapenade, asparagus, and saffron sauce. The scallops were large in size, tasty, and the sauce complimented them well. Next, the pasta tasting - for sure - every pasta lovers delight! Our favorite was the gnocchi - the basil and mozarella accompanyment was out of this world.

The main entrees were more than generous in size, and the presentations were beautiful. The beef tenderloin was served with a chianti sauce, on a pancake type potato, with baby spinach. The beef was cooked to perfection, and was tender and flavorful. The veal chop was a decent choice served with a peppercorn sauce, roasted potatoes, and asparagus - we felt the meat was a bit too faty and the peppercorn sauce was a bit bland.

However - the desserts at Da Vinci were off the charts delicious! The tiramisu was big enough to share, and was creamy and delicious. Then dessert sampler was worth heading back to Da Vinci alone! The molten chocolate cake that was oozing with warm chocolate - left us talking about the dessert for days!

Our waitress was friendly and extremely attentive, and even found our valet ticket at the bar and returned it to us. The experience felt like fine dining should feel- we were allowed a leisurely meal, to enjoy our wonderful cuisine. The menu is more on the expensive side, with appetizers ranging from $8-18, and pasta and main entrees ranging from $15-35, however the portions are much more impressive then you will find at other local fine dining establishments.
