Review: Epoch Restaurant(TV Diner) - Located in the Inn at Exeter, New Hampshire, the newly renovated Epoch Restaurant was a step into the new millennium , as we left the old world charm of the hotel lobby , to go down five lit stairs that glowed under our feet.
The dining room rivaled that of any Boston contemporary restaurant and the menu was just as innovative.
We began with the Tuna and Salmon Nachos which were actually crunchy wasabi wontons , delightfully mixing with the fish , ginger soy glaze and mango coulis. The tastes and textures tantalized and satisfied !
The Artisanal Cheese Plate weaved several gourmet cheeses, jams and roasted nuts with the biggest and most sumptuous black berries we had ever seen, a delicious masterpiece!
Grilled peaches and bing cherry chutney , around the Misty Knolls Statler Chicken , took a classic poultry to a seriously flavorful level. Sliced potatoes, layered and baked with cheddar, made a stellar accompaniment.
Skewered around quinoa on a candied pineapple slice, the Orange Ginger Marinated Tofu Brochettes received high marks for appearance and balance of textures and tastes for a bewitchingly healthy combination.
Perfection came again with our desserts.
The Epoch Beignets swirled thin slices of sautéed apples and cider reduction under cinnamon ice cream and around crisp pastries with tender centers. Exquisite!
The Pumpkin Goat Cheesecake placed a dome of cheesecake on a molasses cookie , that played off the landscape of caramel sauce and cranberry gelee in a prize-winning dessert.
Service was as wonderful as the food with our waitress and dining room manager checking on our needs and comfort.
Appetizers came in from seven to fourteen dollars, entrees seventeen to thirty-two dollars and desserts seven to nine dollars.
The Epoch Restaurant offers extraordinary fare prepared with inventive style, served in a casual, yet elegant modern atmosphere, by a delightful staff. It earns the Platinum Plate.
